Mothers Day - Monstera Monkey Mask 17cm

  • Monstera Monkey Mask 17cm
The Monstera Obliqua Monkey Mask is a very sought after variety of Monstera. There are several variations of trailing Monstera currently found in New Zealand which display narrow and rounded leaves. The Monstera Monkey Mask is characterised by the fenestration it proudly displays upon its leaves at stages of infancy to maturity. Its growing behaviour is also slightly varied from the narrow leaved variety where is develops as a dense and compact plant, which then extends its trailing vines. This beautiful specimen will be adored in every home it graces either as a hanging plant or a shelf plant spilling from its pot. Comes in a 17cm nursery grown pot with hanger and gift wrapped. You can also upgrade to a ceramic pot in your option choice.

MONSTERA MONKEY MASK PLANT CARE

Temperature

The Monkey Mask needs to be kept in a warm and humid environment. Its preferred temperature is between 18-27˚C, although it will tolerate temperatures above 12 ˚C. Keep away from draughts and air conditioning.

Light

The Monkey Mask requires bright indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight will burn the leaves of your plant.

Watering

Water using room temperature water in smaller regular amounts to achieve moist, but not soggy soil. Don’t let the soil dry out. The roots do not like to be left wet so ensure that your pot and soil have good drainage. Less water will be required over the winter months.

Maintenance

The Monkey Mask will need to have its leaves cleaned to ensure its ability to photosynthesis in order to feed itself. Regularly wipe your plants leaves with a damp soft cloth or give it a full shower every now and again to remove any dust that has accumulated. Regular rotation of your plant will also ensure your plant grows relatively symmetrically.

Fertilizer

During spring and summer use an all-purpose liquid plant food to promote new growth.

Toxicity

Monstera’s are toxic plants. Keep out of reach of both children and pets.

Soil

Monstera’s prefer a well-draining soil which is not too heavy. It needs to be able to retain moisture, but not hold water. Ensure your soil has a Peat component which will trap moister, but not become waterlogged.

RE-POTTING

This can be done annually to replace the soil and increase the pot size if required. Re-potting is not recommend when you purchase your new plant as it needs to become accustom to its new environment. To re-pot and change your plants environment may shock your new plant.

POTENTIAL PROBLEMS

Yellowing leaves: An issue with how much your plant is watered will cause the leaves of your Monkey Mask to yellow or if the temperature is too cool. Check the temperature of the room your plant is kept in and adjust your watering. Your plant should grow new healthier leaves if the issue is remedied.

Browning spots on leaves: This can be due to sun burn. Ensure your plant is not in the path of direct sunlight.
